Drawing upon over three decades of experience in the precision machining industry, owner, Brian O’Rell brings dedication, commitment to excellence, attention to detail and the drive to “get the job done” to the precision machining marketplace.
Brian is a native of California, born in Glendale and grew up in Burbank. His passions growing up were baseball and woodworking. Not until he was 19 and getting married to Juno, did he
even consider precision machining as a career. But once he did, he discovered it was a perfect fit for him and spent every waking hour gleaning new information and ideas to learn the trade. It is a passion that still runs deep and to this day he is excited to create that new part or develop that new technology.
After many years of honing his skills in the industry through working at various machine shops by day and working his own shop, O’Rell Engineering, by night, he joined Vanderhorst Brothers in 1983.

Vanderhorst Brothers, Inc. was founded in 1973 by brothers, Hank and Ed Vanderhorst. Their philosophy of quality, integrity and personal services were what drew Brian to the brothers and their generosity and kindness are what kept him there for 18 years until which time he and Juno purchased Vanderhorst Brothers, Inc. in the year 2000. Hank and Ed are now happily retired but their company philosophy still lives on through Brian, Juno and a dedicated team of employees, many of whom have been with the company for fifteen years or more.
Today Vanderhorst Brothers, Inc. is housed in a 22,000 sq. ft. building nestled in the heart of Simi Valley where it has been located for the last 15 years. In keeping with Brian’s commitment to the company’s technological development, machine inventory is constantly being updated and today boasts state of the art machinery, including a fast growing EDM department.
Vanderhorst Brothers, Inc. has a diversified customer base serving customers in a variety of industries and locations: independent inventors in Southern California, defense companies in New York City, optical companies in Canada, to name a few.
As part of its ongoing commitment to excellence, Vanderhorst Brothers, Inc. embraces Lean Manufacturing philosophies and utilizes external and internal training opportunities. The company earned its AS9100 Certification in 2009. Additionally, Vanderhorst Brothers is a member of the SCMG, a consortium of manufacturing companies. Brian and Juno meet regularly with 5 other companies to develop solutions, improve performance, and increase overall value in order to offer the customer better solutions through total supply chain management. |
